Take Over Day 2017

Our annual Take Over Day this year has been fantastic. As always positions were available at Jack Hunt, our Cluster Schools and Trust partners including Anglian Water and Peterborough Hospital.

Our annual Take Over Day this year has been fantastic. As always positions were available at Jack Hunt, our Cluster Schools and Trust partners including Anglian Water and Peterborough Hospital. There were an abundance of applicants for roles such as Headteachers, School Leadership, Primary Teachers, Laboratory Technicians, Catering Staff, Nurses, Radiotherapists, Marketing and Accountancy.  Successful applicants shadowed staff, allowing them to gain real life experience and see what each job is really like whilst getting involved in real world situations.

At Jack Hunt, the school day began with the usual Staff Briefing, this time led by Lutfullah Sharifi, Headteacher for the day with Farhaan Khan acting as Deputy Headteacher. Once the meeting finished and all the Take Over Day students had been introduced everyone headed out to get stuck in to their days work.

As well as leadership roles across the school, students experienced roles such as Network Manager, Catering Assistant and Finance Manager. This was a great opportunity for them to see what goes on behind the scenes to keep their school running every day.  Richard Kaseta became Network Manager at Jack Hunt School and he loved the experience.  He was given hands on experience and at the end of the day did not want to go home saying his day had been “just amazing”.  He thanked all the staff in the IT office for helping him and being kind, and ended by saying “It’s been just amazing to experience this”.

Meanwhile at Peterborough City Hospital another group of Take Over Day Students were introduced to their co-workers for the day.  I met up with some of the students later in the day to find out how they were getting on.  Abdelrahman Otify who worked as a Biomedical Scientist for the day told me he wants to be a Doctor one day.  He particularly enjoyed the practical work with red blood cells.  It was great to see all the students across the hospital listening, asking questions and begin engaged with the possibilities that working in the NHS could bring.

Another group at the hospital were in the Cardiac Unit shadowing a Chief Nursing Officer.  They spent time talking to Patients, filling in forms and talking to other members of staff. Both of the students said they had aspirations of working within the hospital environment.

All the students who took part in Take Over Day at the Hospital left feeling enthusiastic about their roles for the day. Take Over Students also headed out to 11 local primary schools.  They all had an amazing day acting as Headteachers or Teachers.  Alisha Liaqat who was Headteacher at Thorpe Primary school loved the experience, she wants to go into primary school teaching and this experience has just solidified her aspiration.

Other students who went to Greenwoods solicitors, Moore Stephens accountants and Anglian water had a great time with the companies tweeting how hard working the students were and how impressed they were with the calibre of our Students.

Take Over Day 2017 has been a massive success once again and all the students who took part loved the opportunities which they were given and were a credit to the school.  Thanks to all the staff and employers who made this such a memorable and inspiring day for our Students.
