Day 1

Travelling from Peterborough station to London was very smooth and quick.  Within 55 minutes, we were in the capital.  We only had to cross the road from King’s Cross to St Pancreas International which was very handy!

We joined the queues to check in at the Eurostar terminal. After going through passport control we had a few minutes to wait before we were ready to board.  Time for a bite to eat aboard the Eurostar and off we were on our way to Paris.

Getting to the hostel involved travelling on the Métro with our luggage… this was not pleasant but we soon found our way to our hostel.  No time to rest though.  We were soon back on the Métro to the Tour Montparnasse.  This is the tallest sky scraper in Paris and we went straight to the 56th floor.  We had a quick look around before we went up on the roof terrace.  What a view!

We had dinner just round the corner where we sample some excellent food; some kind of pizza from the Alsace region of France called Flammekueches.  We shared several of those and finished our meal with apple tart.

Time for a little wander round the streets of Paris in the lovely spring evening.  We stopped Boulevard de l’Opera and walked to the Palais Royal and the Louvres and its famous glass pyramid.  After a few photos, time to go back to the hostel for a well-deserved rest.

A lovely first day… Can’t wait for what is in store for us today with the Arc de Triomphe and Musée d’Orsay.
