Students attend Peterborough Town Hall to recieve Duke of Edinburgh Bronze awards
A group of students at Jack Hunt School have celebrated their outstanding success in this year's Duke of Edinburgh Award. The students recieved their bronze awards during a presentation evening at the town hall on Wednesday 19 November, alongside pupils from other schools from across the city.
To gain the award, each of the students completed four sections to demonstrate how they have helped in the community, developed their skills and self-confidence, participated in physical activities and expereienced the challenge of teamwork on outdoor expeditions. Throughout the evening the students were presented with their awards by the Deputy Mayor and Mayoress.
James Dennett, Year 11 said "It was an enjoyable evening, receiving the award, it was nice to see others who were also getting their awards.
Mr O' Connor, Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) Co-ordinator for Bronze says "Visiting the town hall is always a lovely evening to share in the succcess of our student's hard work. We are all very proud of their determination to succeed and complete the award." Mr O' Connor was also awarded the long service award back in early November. This award included a trip to the St James Palace where the award was presented by Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex. The event was help to congratulate the volunteers who support running the Duke of Edinburgh scheme across the country.
Mr O'Connor said "It was a great honour to be invited to this very special ceremony in London. Hundreds of DofE colleagues would have recieved their long service awards across the country but only a few actually receive and invite to the Palace and meet His Royal Highness. It was a great morning meeting national celebrities, other award holders and of course meeting HRH Earl of Wessex. I look forward to many more years' sevice supporting out students and the DofE award scheme."
