Take Over Day 2019

Students from Jack Hunt School take over different roles across the city in our annual "Take Over Day"

Our annual Take Over Day saw different jobs and roles around the school being lead by some of our students, including Headteacher, teaching support staff and network manager positions. This event gives our students the chance to see how some of these roles function, what people are responsible for and to gain an understanding of the processes that are used in the world of work.

The positions weren't limited to our school however, seeing our students taking part in job roles across the City including lab technicians, project managers, business assistants and a plethora of positions at Peterborough City Hospital. Students got the chance to be hands on and involved in some of these roles themselves, undertaking projects and assisting with a variety of different tasks.

To gain one of these positions, students had to make a formal application for a job role they were interested in and outline why they would like to undertake the position. This included areas such as what skills and qualities they already have to help fulfil the role, why the position was interesting to them and what they would like to gain from the day. Each application was read and discussed before final decisions were made regarding the successful applicants. This year we had over 200 applications with more than 50 students being successful in taking up one of the many roles.

The day was a resounding success with many students using Take Over Day as an opportunity to look into possible careers for the future.

A huge thank you to all of our partner schools and businesses for making this day possible and giving our students  this fantastic opportunity which wouldn't be possible without them. Thank you to Eyrescroft, Gladstone, Heltware, Highlees, Longthorpe, Middleton, Ravensthorpe, Sacred Heart, Thorpe and Watergall Primary schools for giving our students the chance to see what it's like on the other side of the classroom!

We also extend our thanks for the wide variety of roles made available by Anglian Water, Cambridgeshire Constabulary, Greenwoods Solicitors, Moore Stephens Accountancy, Peterborough City Hospital and R G Carters.

Thank you to everyone who helped with our Take Over Day, we really appreciate all the time and effort given to support our students and provide them with a valuable insight into the world of work.
