Year 9: Dreams and Aspirations

Year 9 Dreams and Aspirations: Support your student with their GCSE Options

January and February are important months for Year 9 students as they will be looking into their options choices. Pupils have now all been given their 'Year 9 Choices - Dreams and Aspirations' booklet in PDE lessons. Any pupil who has still not received their booklet should either speak to their Personal Tutor.

These Booklets provide essential information for pupils and parents as they embark on making the crucially important curriculum decisions that will govern the next two years of learning and beyond. The first stage of this joint process is the Year 9 Parents Evening on Tuesday 14 January where teachers will outline the progress students have made this year and discuss future opportunities in their subject.

The pupils have an assembly at 1pm on Monday 27 January where the options process is explained clearly. The parental event is held on Tuesday 28 January with a careers fayre at 5.30pm and presentation in the main hall at 6pm. Parents will have the opportunity to learn about the options process and have time to ask questions alongside their son or daughter. The event is hosted by Mrs Ford, Deputy Headteacher responsible for the options process, but other members of the Senior Leadership Team, Learning Support, the Careers Advice team and other staff are on hand to help. Finally there will presentations from teachers of subjects and courses that pupils can choose from, but have not studied before on Thursday 30 January during periods 1 and 2. Information about other subjects is presented during normal lesson time and is also outlined in the booklet.

The final deadline for option forms is Friday 14 February. Forms must be fully completed and signed by the pupil, parent and Personal Tutor ensuring the name sticker is attached! The forms demand careful consideration as once Year 10 begins changes cannot be made.
