Presentation Evening 2018

Jack Hunt School’s annual Presentation Evening saw many students, staff, parents and honoured guests come together to celebrate students’ achievements.

Jack Hunt School’s annual Presentation Evening was held on Monday 18 December. The event was a wonderful evening which saw many students, staff, parents and honoured guests come together to celebrate students’ achievements throughout their time at Jack Hunt.

A number of guests attended including the Major and Mayoress Councillor John Fox and his wife Judy Fox, Leader of the council John Holdich and his wife Barbara, Mr and Mrs Ridgway, Sam Smith Cabinet Member for Children’s Services and June Stokes Cabinet Advisor for Education and Safeguarding;

 The special guest speaker was Claire Lomas, who presented awards and certificates to the GCSE and A-Level students as well as special prizes to those students who were best in their subject. Claire Lomas was working as a chiropractor and had reached the highest level in the sport of eventing when an accident left her paralysed from the chest down. Claire has since discovered skiing, set up a business, written a book and organised fundraising events. In 2012 Claire became worldwide news when she completed the London Marathon in a robotic suit. Although it took her 17 days to complete Claire raised £210k for Spinal Research.

Claire Lomas motivated the audience by sharing her experiences and the impact one life changing event can have, encouraging us to believe in ourselves, and get out there to take on the challenges. Claire recounted the struggles and situations she was put in and how she had to tackle each moment, utilise her resilience and come back stronger and more determined.

A special mention should go to: Mariyum Khan who won 3 awards (the Roy Duncan Award for best A-Levels results, the Terry Shield for achieving the highest levels overall in vocational courses and the John Goose Shield for the highest level in Sociology) Katie Prange who also won 3 awards (the Barsby Trophy for the best GCSE results, the Mehta Trophy for the student showing the most promise in Science and the Religious Education (RE) Shield for the best RE results) and finally, Matija Zivotic who was also the recipient of three awards (the Geography Shield for the highest result in Geography, the Economics Award for the highest levels in Economics and the Sports Award for outstanding academic achievement in A-level Sports studies).

The evening came to a close with the Head Boy Ballal Shabir thanking the musical performers and Claire’s ‘inspirational and motivation personality, which she used to raise a phenomenal amount of money for charities and spinal research, which will help many people. We have a hero amongst us here today, we don’t often see many around. It’s like a ray of hope for all those dark nights’

Head Girl Ayesha Patel then continued with ‘Claire you are an inspiration, your personality and resilience to persevere through every single obstacle that comes your way is truly inspirational. Positive attitude and ability to open new doors is incredible.’ Ayesha then went on to thank the students ‘who have won the awards and also push through resiliently and work to the best of their abilities. But also thanks to the staff and teachers for supporting the students to be the best they can be’

The evening was a fantastic way to celebrate the achievements of the young people; well done to all the award winners.
