From Primary

It is our hope that all learners at Jack Hunt School will succeed to the very best of their abilities and, with this in mind, we look forward to meeting learners as early as possible in Year 6 to support a positive transition from their Primary School.

We understand the importance of making the right choice of secondary school and know that parents have many things to consider when making this choice, particularly when their child has a Special Educational Need and/or Disability. We are committed to supporting parents and we are very happy to arrange visits to the school so that parents and children can properly explore the provision at the school and establish if this is the right place to meet their child’s needs.

The Inclusion Base is also involved in the selection of teaching groups and tutor groups for learners coming into Year 7, so they are able to have some influence on decisions regarding the best type of tutor and tutor group for your child, the most supportive teaching group and the House team that will most effectively meet your child’s individual needs.

Key Stage 3 to Key Stage 4

At the end of Year 9, there is another transition from Key Stage 3 to Key Stage 4, when GCSE programmes begin. The Learning Support Department is once again involved, attending Options Evenings so that we can speak with parents and children about the best curriculum choices going forward. Where learners would struggle with a full GCSE programme, we explore alternative options for them in order to secure the best chance of success in Key Stage 4 in preparation for their next steps.

From Secondary to Adulthood

At the other end of their school career – whether that is at the end of their GCSE or their A-Level programme – we hope to be able to determine the best opportunities for your child going forward into Further Education, university or the workplace and know that they are prepared for their next steps into adulthood.

Information regarding your child’s Special Educational Needs can be shared with their next educational setting in order that their support continues into their next phase of education.  If requested, we are also happy to invite representatives to participate in your child’s Year 11 annual review of their EHCP (Education, Health and Care Plan) so that options can be explored more fully and you and your child can be made aware of the facilities and support provision available to them in their next stage of education.

At Jack Hunt, Preparation for Adulthood (PfA) is a theme that runs throughout all our work with SEND students.  We seek to develop learners’ resilience and confidence and provide them with practical life skills training. All the work that goes on between these important transition times seeks to prepare your child for adulthood and ensure that they are on the path to achieving their desired outcomes.
